How to take candid photos

Candid photos make the best photos. There’s nothing better than capturing someone’s most genuine reaction on camera. That moment when their eyes light up with crinkles and their smile is so big their cheeks start to hurt.
Photographing someone in a moment when they’re not posing, or trying to look good for the camera is when the real beauty of a person truly shines through.
But snapping this photo can be hard to get… it is supposed to be candid after all.
Here are our top 4 tips for taking the perfect candid photos.
1. Bring a camera with you everywhere
In order to capitalize on getting a photo of a candid moment, you must have a camera with you! Bring your camera/smartphone with you even when you don’t think you’ll need it. You never know when your mom will laugh until she cries or your best friend will stop in awe of the most beautiful flower she has ever seen.
2. Be sneaky
The moment someone knows a camera is on them is the moment they stop looking and acting naturally. We become more rigid and even self-conscious, which can ruin the beauty of what is supposed to be a candid photo. So be sneaky and play it off as though you’re just checking your messages or scrolling through Instagram for the 200th time that day.
3. Capitalize on “live” photos
The beauty of taking live photos is that it captures multiple frames. After taking the photo you can look through all of the frames and decide on the one that best captures the person you’re taking a photo of.
4. Print these photos
Once you’ve taken the perfect candid photo. The one where your dad just found out he’s going to be a grandfather, the one where your sister just said yes to a lifetime of happiness with her partner, or something in between, it’s time to print it!
Don’t just keep these incredible photos on your camera roll. Print them on high-quality, museum-grade canvas and gift it to that special person in your life!
